12 For 18

I wore  a vintage Le’Gambi spandex disco jean yesterday to the mall. It was my 12th wearing of the year and 90th since I started back in 2012. It was a mild day, in the 60’s in fact. I knew it was too warm to wear my longer puffer jacket so I just grabbed my short black puffer jacket and went with it. The funny thing is I didn’t have to spend time looking in the mirror and debating whether I really should wear the short jacket with the spandex jeans. I just grabbed the jacket and put it on. And it was fine and looked good.

At the store I went to I was shopping in the clearance section, looking for anything good and cheap. I found a bunch of discounted track/exercise pants that are lightweight and great for warmer weather. I only bought medium and small sizes and hoped for some–any–to fit snug. I knew they would not fit like my disco pants but I hoped for a skinny or slim fit. I know those exercise pants are made in such fits nowadays. But either way I wanted the pants because I don’t wear shorts much anymore. Not even indoors. In fact, I wear shorts more often when I go outdoors than when indoors. I do have those 2 pairs of ‘disco pant shorts’ or ‘spandex jean shorts’ that I had made from last year. Those will definitely see more use this coming summer. And I have a few slim nylon shorts as well as some denim skinny shorts. Other than the fact that the spandex shorts have no front pockets and thus less room for me to carry my various accessories, they remain my favorites and a great way to stay connected to my shiny spandex jeans craze all year round.

The track pants I bought ended up not fitting tight. None of them. But I like them nonethelss. They will keep me cool in the summer. I could have tried them on at the store, but I really didn’t feel like taking my disco pants off. I was wearing one of my vintage black pairs and I’d rather not keep putting them on and taking them off needlessly.

I did try on a sport jacket/blazer that was light gray in color. Though it was a bit small on me it did look good with my black spandex jeans, a white/black AA t-shirt and white Converse low tops.

When I went to the checkout lane some young-ish women were behind me waiting their turn. They were speaking in Polish (I presume) and I can only wonder what they were saying. As I wrote about before, a checkout lane is one of those places where you get ‘checked out’ completely by those standing behind you. So while your shiny, skintight spandex jeans may not get noticed while you’re walking around the store by fellow shoppers who are looking around, they will surely get noticed when you’re finally in line paying for your goods!

But I was at the store on an early Wednesday afternoon. You’re not going to see many people on such a day and time shopping. A real challenge for me would be to show up at the mall on black Friday or Christmas Eve. But since I really dilike crowds I never go shopping on those days anymore. I used to but I don’t anymore. Also those days tend to be cold and not very kind to disco pant wearers’ legs.

Tomorrow is going to be less mild then yesterday. It also happens to be my thrift store shopping day. So I am leaning heavily towards wearing spandex jeans again. Probably my midnight pair. But since it’s appearing to be jacket weather it will make for a nice pairing with those pants. A jacket at least gives me some additional pockets where I can store my things without having to carry a messenger bag.

Several months ago I acquired a pair of vintage Le’Gambi aqua blue disco pants. They are a size 1 but they fit and it’s a perfect skintight fit. Just how I like it. I had this color previously. Same brand, too. But that one had the trapezoidal Le’Gambi brand tag while this one has the small rectangular one. I sold the previous one because I thought I would never wear this color. It was a mistake. But we all make them, don’t we? So I acquired this one late last year and it’s amazing. Finally took some good pics wearing them recently. I still think it’s a color I will have to work up to. It’s definitely not as versatile as black or a dark blue but it will get you noticed. I know it’s a long ways off but I’d like to think I will wear an ‘out there’ color for Halloween this year.

I may have mentioned this already but I have decided not to make any more straight leg versions of those Chinese disco pants. While they are nice and lightweight (and great for summer) I don’t think it’s worth the cost of having the work done. Yet I do still plan to get a few American Apparel pairs done as soon as I can get the colors I’m waiting on. I am still waiting for them to sell the charcoal color they had before. Can’t wait to get a straight leg version of that color made. I have only been wearing black and midnight (and steel blue once) these last 2 years. The charcoal would make for a nice change and it’s a color neutral enough that I can wear without causing fanfare. But AA is sitting on the fence over releasing this color. I don’t know why. As I wrote many times before, this had to be one of their most popular colors. And speaking of the AA disco pant, it’s good to see that some of the reviews posted there were written by male wearers of the pants. I remember having written a positive review of the pants when it was still American Apparel that owned the company. The review was never posted even though I said nothing but good about the pants. I suspect that since I identified myself as male they wanted no part of it. But I am glad to say that the new owner of the store has published my review and those of other guys.

So once they start selling the charcoal pants I will benefit in two ways: first, I will have this beautiful charcoal color in a classic straight leg version of spandex jeans; second, I will have this gorgeous color in a pair of spandex jean shorts for the summer. I am so looking forward to this that you cannot imagine. Of course, I also want brown too but I am feeling much less optimistic about brown. For one thing, it’s almost impossible to find a brown pair in a size I can wear, namely medium. That’s new or used. For another, I doubt AA will reissue this color. It was probably not one of their best sellers. I find several brown pairs around online that are XS or XXS. I can’t work with those. I do currently have a medium. Even if I bought one of the XS or XXS just to have the extra material to modify the medium, the rest of the XS/XSS would be rendered useless as I coudn’t use them for shorts. With the charcoal color I have two of them. Technically I could take both into the shop and come out with a straight-leg version and a pair of shorts. But then I’ll no longer have the skinny version. So if I could just get one more I’d be all set. In the meantime I’ll keep looking around.

An interesting item of note:
AA has their disco pant available only in one size in red at the moment. And when you click on the only size they have it says they are down to the last few pairs. Does this mean they are done with red once they sell out? Are they going to restock? Just a few days ago I had checked again and red was not even showing as a color option. Today it was back but only with that one size. I don’t know what this means but it does make me concerned a bit. For one thing, I never got around to getting a red one. Also, if they decide not to restock what does it mean for the other colors? It is something to keep an eye on for sure.
