Disco Pants on a Pretty Warm Day

Today was really warm here but I decided to wear disco pants anyway. It was one of those days I have come to appreciate less. While everyone likes and anticipates warm weather I sort of dread it because I know it will surely affect my spandex disco jeans outfits.

But I threw caution to the wind today and wore my altered medium pair of charcoal AA disco pants. And though some would say it was too warm for this, I wore my black AA denim long-sleeve button-up shirt. Yes, I could have opted to wear my thin AA shiny nylon jacket instead. That would have made for a look I love. But it was probably too warm for that, too, and that outfit takes a little more temerity than I have right now.

The important thing is that I wore disco jeans today. It was a day I have just been wanting to wear disco pants all the time. I get in those moods at times. This time around I guess it’s because I spent a good amount of time yesterday with someone who was wearing black AA disco pants. So it made me want to wear them as well. And I am looking at about two more wearings this week at least. The weather will be better (read: cooler) the rest of the week so I can wear spandex jeans  with some better tops. I think that if I can get used to wearing these pants on a more daily basis I will be able to experiment with shorter and better fitting tops. I would love to wear t-shirts with them in hot weather but I really don’t feel comfortable until I lose some weight.

I have taken a lot of photos of myself in disco pants and what I have come to realize is that the photos look best when I tuck in my shirts or use some other method to allow the crotch and bum areas to be fully exposed. This business about covering those areas is not my thing. Yes, I do it because I am still self-conscious about that but once I get over it I won’t care. If you look at the videos of Leif Garrett, The Brothers Johnson and Menudo, you will see that for the most part they did not cover up those areas with long tops. Leif usually wore a very short leather jacket with his spandex jeans. In another video he has a button-up shirt tucked into navy blue disco pants. The Brothers Johnson didn’t cover anything up either. And the same is true in some Menudo videos (look for a video of a live performance of theirs called “Subete a Mi Moto”).

I’m not saying you have tuck your shirt in all the way down into your pants. That can leave unsightly bulges and visible lines through the spandex disco pants. What I do is tuck my top all the way down and then pull it back out until just the very edge of it is still inside the pants. That eliminates any visible lines and unsightly bulk. So leaving just some of the top overhanging above the pants is actually the look I like best.

I am going to try to get back to wearing t-shirts this summer. Before I would always go out in a short-sleeve button shirt. But I like the more edgy look of disco pants and a t-shirt. I haven’t lost any weight since last summer, though, so we’ll see how this pans out.

For the first time I wore low-top Converse with my altered AA disco pants today. Turns out the pants are still a bit short even though I had them lengthened a bit. Ideally, I like to have the pants reach down to the shoes without any break between the hems and the tops of the shoes. This one had some space which I guess in this current fashion mode is tolerable and perhaps even stylish. Ultimately these altered pants look better with high top Converse but I will continue to wear them with the low-tops. Speaking of altered disco pants, I still have to take my midnight navy medium pair in to get altered. I really like having the two-tone, charcoal and brown but the midnight navy and even a solid black would give me more choice. I still want the pearl but I’m not totally sure I would wear them out quite yet. However, I am not going to have both a large and medium altered in pearl. I’m going with just a medium. But I will have both sizes in black done.

So I don’t think I’ll wear any disco pants on Tuesday just because of a certain place I may be going to. But the weather will be perfect for it. I may end up just wearing a favorite pair of skinny jeans. Also, there is something going on in the middle of this week that may affect my mood for the rest of the week if not month. It’s something pretty important so I may try to get another wearing in on Wednesday. I’m hoping that works out well because it’s actually a really critical thing and if it works out in my favor things will be looking up for a good while. If it doesn’t work out things could start looking bleak and soon. I would appreciate good thoughts and prayers sent my way if you are willing. Thanks.

Who was wearing the black AA disco pants that inspired you to wear yours? Male or female? Not that it really matters, but I would just like to know for the sake of knowing. My wife doesn’t wear hers anymore, but she still keeps them in her wardrobe. I keep hoping she will change her mind. So I have to be my own inspiration most of the time.

Best of luck to you and whatever is happening in your life. Hopefully whatever is occurring will have a positive outcome and will lift you up and not bring you down. There’s too much down in all of our lives. We don’t need any more.

    Spandex on!

It was a niece of mine actually. She’s the only female I’ve given disco pants to who really likes them and continues to wear them after a good number of years.
That’s too bad your wife doesn’t wear them anymore. I guess with women there are always a number of reasons why they would stop wearing that. But I’ve found that even better than getting someone you want to see wear disco pants is wearing them yourself. Nothing beats that!
Thanks for the well wishes. Unfortunately, that didn’t pan out. I did not invest too much emotionally into it so I don’t have to deal with feeling drained or anything like that. Just have to explore other avenues.
      Spandex on indeed!

Hey. Sorry to hear your “something going on” didn’t work out. maybe next time, whatever it may be.

So it was your niece. I see. And she doesn’t give you any grief about wearing disco pants, a “girl’s” item of clothing? That’s great. We should all meet people like her that are intelligent enough to know that disco pants have always been a unisex item, not just for one gender. I’ll keep hoping.

Like I said my wife still has both of the pairs I bought her in her wardrobe. She told me not to buy them for her anymore also. I don’t think it is a disco jeans aversion though. She wants to lose weight before she wears anything revealing, and she also works a lot so she doesn’t always have time for wearing them. I’ll bet she surprises me one day. We will see.

Well, when one door closes you gotta kick open another one.

Yeah, my niece. She doesn’t give me a hard time about wearing disco pants probably because I’m the one who got her started in wearing them. And that was the first time ever she saw me in them. I don’t know what she thinks about it. I posted a photo of us both wearing disco pants on my Facebook and it looks really cool. But she’s definitely too young to know that they were originally unisex. Maybe now she knows?? But she has several other colors and I’d like to get pics of us in each of the colors. I don’t see her often so that probably won’t happen.

I guess wearing disco pants can make one feel self-conscious especially if they’re not totally content with the shape they’re in. Hopefully your wife will get to a point where she has the time and the confidence to wear them again.
